Wow, listen to this one....
"ATLANTA -- Genital piercings for women were banned by the Georgia House as lawmakers considered a bill outlining punishments for female genital mutilation.
The bill would make such mutilation punishable by two to 20 years in prison. It makes no exception for people who give consent to have the procedure performed on their daughters out of religious or cultural custom.
An amendment adopted without objection added "piercing" to the list of things that may not be done to female genitals. Even adult women would not be allowed to get the procedure. The bill eventually passed 160-0, with no debate.
Amendment sponsor Rep. Bill Heath, R-Bremen, was slack-jawed when told after the vote that some adults seek the piercings.
"What? I've never seen such a thing," Heath said. "I, uh, I wouldn't approve of anyone doing it. I don't think that's an appropriate thing to be doing."
The ban applies only to women, not men. The bill has already been approved by the Senate but now must return to that chamber because of the piercing amendment. Both chambers of the Legislature must agree on a single version of a bill before it can go to the governor for final approval"
I don't even know how to begin dissecting this. I can't believe that passing a law like this is even allowed. If it is something that a woman chooses to do, how can someone just pass a law and not even give us the option to do it if we choose? It's not something that is forced on us, it's something that we, as free Americans, choose to have done. Another thing that really makes me angry about this is that it's not even illegal for men, just the women?? How is that fair? I can understand a state like Georgia not liking or agreeing with genitalia piercings but I would think that it would apply to both men and women. I have to say I'm disgusted and disappointed in Georgia, they are making it seem like they are some no name, super religious country in the middle of no where, due to their ignorant laws, and I would also like to thank god that I live in state that allows me such freedoms to do whatever I please.

I can see the light...
I felt that it would be kind of pointless to sit here and write a blog about how meaningful and beautiful tattoo's can be, because they are, and almost everyone knows it. However, I did want to touch base on a type of tattooing that not everyone is familiar with.
UV light tattoos.
It is exactly what it sounds like. UV light tattoos, or glow in the dark tattoos, are tattoos done with special ink that is only seen under black light. It's actually kind of a cool idea because if you are one of those people who like the idea of getting a tattoo but you don't want people to see it or you have a professional job that won't let you, it's perfect for your situation. These UV tattoos are seen only in UV light and yet seem almost invisible in everyday light.
Unfortunately, UV light tattooing has not always had a great reputation, and the artists who did tattoo people with the UV ink did not like to admit it. It was said that the UV ink contained phosphorous and was believed to have caused quite a bit of health problems. However, that was many years ago and now there is a new type of ink that is completely harmless. According to TattooArtists.org, having done research in persons who've had UV ink tattoo's for over 10 years, they are one of the most safest types of tattooing out there. According to the website, it does not cause cancer and it is not radio active so that's a plus! The only problem with this kind of tattooing is finding an artist who will do it. While some artists are still probably alittle sketched out about the idea of doing a tattoo that may later come back and bite them in the ass because they are harmful, some artists have adopted the new technique of UV tattooing and embrace it.
Well I hope that I shed a little bit of light when it comes to UV tattooing. It's one of the most safest types of tattooing out there and it's definitely a plus if you are into tattoo's but your professional life is keeping you from getting one. It's a bummer that the artists who will do it are hard to find but I can guarantee with a little research and hard work, finding a skilled artist to do a great job is not impossible.
Until Later,

Dream Job Vs. Freedom Of Expression
When I was searching through blogs, I came across a entree by the Admin at Body Art Blog that has been a topic of conversation between me and my sister/friends/ family for quite a while.
It reads:
"When I used to work in the land of $5,000 suits and $100 ties, I had a boss who admittedly had several tattoos. One day he was talking about it and had this to say. I never got any tattoos on my hand or my forearms and tended to keep them in areas such as my bicep where nobody could see them. That was good advice and I didn’t forget it.
It is estimated that 36% of all Americans between the ages of 18-25 have at least one tattoo. Tattoos are to an employer what long hair was in the seventies and spiked hair was in the eighties. If you want to put that hundred thousand dollar college education to use, I would plan carefully where you place your piercings and your tattoos.
It would stink if that tattoo or body piercing ruined your chance of a dream job."
It's really difficult for me to read, or even talk, about this subject because I know how true it is. The problem all starts at the fact that tattoo's and piercings are looked down on as trashy and hoodlum like. The problem with that is that, that's a very naive way to look at that kind of situation. Tattoos and piercings are just an expression of self. It's like telling someone they can't wear their hair a certain way or even wear a certain type of clothes. I will agree in the fact that some tattoos on some people can be gangster like but for the most part, tattoos are just art. It's a way to actually wear a beautiful piece of art. Piercings, unfortunately, are a little harder to defend. Other then being a form of self expression they do appear unprofessional in the work place. Personally, I have had to take out my piercings for most of my past jobs. The good thing about piercings though is that they can be put back in once work is over.
The way the world is going though, I am hopeful that tattoos will soon become more and more accepted in the business world. With almost everyone in my generation having at least one tattoo, I think that eventually tattoos can become more appropriate in the work place. Tattoos on someone does not define their work ethic, it does not define their motivation, and it definitely does not define ones education level. It's a shame the way the world looks down on people with body modifications but continuing on in the 21st century, I am hopeful that the worlds outlook will change.
Until then,
Bianca

Ever wanted a piercing that breaks the usual mold??
Hey guys!
There is a style of piercing that I didn't quite touch on last time. Strategically named, Dermal Anchoring, is an elaborate procedure.
Dermal anchoring is, like i stated before, a type of piercing. It is not your typical one however. It is a piercing that only has an entrance hole and no exit. Confusing...i know! It is much like a surface piercing. It is pierced and the special jewelry stays inside the skin so the only thing that is visible is the ball.
The top part of the jewelry is unscrewable and that is how you can change the appearance of it.
The piercing itself starts out like getting any other piercing. But half way through, instead of the needle going completely through skin, the needle pierces the skin half way through then it is quickly taken out and the jewelry is placed in. The thin flat part with the holes (as pictured above) is the part that is inserted into the skin and the flat top part (in the picture above) is that jewelry that is shown above the skin.
Dermal anchoring is a fairly new procedure that alot of piercing shops just recently adopted. It is an alternative for getting a surface piercing. While the rejection rate is fairly lower then a surface piercing, the only way to take out a dermal anchor after its healed is to scalpel it out of the skin. I know that sounds kind of intense but it is actually a really great revelation in the piercing world.
Here is an example of what a dermal anchor looks like! Like in this picture, dermal anchors do have the possibility to reject, especially in an area as easily irritated as the finger!
Well guys I hope this kind of open your mind to something new today!

The World Of Piercings
I, personally, am a big fan of piercings. At one point in time I can easily say that I've had over thirty of them myself. Just like with any type of body modification, they are easily addicting. There is a lot more to the world of piercings however then just, pierce, clean, and heal. First off, there are different kinds of piercings. You can pierce just about anything on your body now a days. Standard piercings can go through just about anything; lips, eye brows, belly buttons, the usuals. However with piercings there is always a chance of rejection in areas where the jewelry can just push itself out.For example, like with eyebrow piercing, unless properly pierced and taken care of, the chances of rejection are high. The jewelry itself will never heal and being to slowly start pushing itself up towards the surface until the piercing barely has anything to hang on to anymore and simply comes out. Other piercings that have that risk are belly button piercings and of course surface piercings. Surface piercings however are a completely different story. Unlike regular piercings, surface piercings are one long bar that is pierced completely under the surface of someones skin. To the right is a picture of different sized surface piercing jewelry. With this kind of jewlery and peircing advancement, it is giving people alot more options of what they can piercing on their body. Surface piercings can easily be done almost anywhere on someones body, most common are; neck, clavicals, wrists, and even cheek. Unfortuantely the risk of rejection is high because of the usual placement of the piercing. With alot of movement in the area, it does not give the jewelry alot of time to heel and more often then not, rejection occurs. I have enough scars on my body to prove it. Although my body is not one for healing piercings all that great, I do have mulitple friends who have sucessfully healed surface piercings so all hope is not lost!
I know that I probably havent made piercings sound like the most fun but I promise you there is a reason so many people get them.
Well guys, until next time!

Welcome!
Hey!
Just an overview of what my blog is gonna be about! In this blog, I plan on researching and discussing the world of body art. There are many different types of body modifcations out there such as, tattooing, piercing, suspension, and branding, just to name a few. And there is even multiple types of categories inside each type of modification. Dermal anchoring, for example, is a different type of piercing! Confusing I know. Dont worry though, you'll be learning plenty more about it in my blog!
Thanks guys!
